By Alastair Jamieson, Staff writer, NBC News

The Federal Aviation Administration began an investigation Sunday into the crash of a small plane in Taunton, Mass. that reportedly killed two people.

The crash happened at Taunton Municipal Airport at 6:30 a.m. local time Sunday, said FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen in a statement.

Taunton Emergency Management Director Rich Ferreria told NECN.com that the plane had caught fire and two people were killed.

Taunton Police believe the plane was taking off prior to the crash, NECN reported.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
