The Oura Ring 4 is the brand’s latest model. It has a longer eight-day battery life, a wider range of sizes and a fully titanium build with recessed sensors nearly flush with the ring’s interior. In my experience, it has also improved software that leads to slightly more accurate health data. Like the Gen3, the Oura Ring 4 requires a $5.99 monthly subscription.
I tested the Oura Ring 4 for over two months after the brand sent me a sizing kit and ring sample for review. The Oura Ring Gen 3 was already my favorite smart ring on the market. Oura nixed the epoxy interior and the new Oura Ring 4 is now fully made of titanium — inside and out. The interior sensor bumps are also gone; they’re now recessed inside of the ring, providing a much smoother feel while wearing it. The Oura Ring 4’s hardware and software improvements help cement it as the best smart ring you can buy right now. You can learn more in my Oura Ring 4 review.
The Oura Ring is a smart ring that tracks loads of health metrics — think heart rate, body temperature, stress levels, blood oxygen, steps and more. It automatically detects sleep, naps, and some exercises like walking and running, plus you can manually start and stop dozens of different kinds of exercises through the Oura app. The app keeps track of all your metrics, and summarizes them into sleep, activity, stress and readiness scores and reports. It has a seven-day battery life, which means you don't have to always worry about charging it up.
The Ring Gen3 comes in two designs: Heritage, which has flat accents, and Horizon, which is a standard, uniform circle. Both are made of titanium on the outside and plastic on the inner finish. The Oura Ring Gen3 essentially requires a $5.99 monthly subscription. You can learn more in my Oura Ring Gen3 review.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring is a great Oura Ring alternative if you use a lot of Samsung devices and want a subscription-free experience. It works seamlessly with Samsung Galaxy phones and Galaxy watches, and tracks similar metrics to Oura. The ring is also sleek and compact. The battery life also lasts up to seven days, according to the brand.
If you have an Apple watch, the latest Apple Watch SE makes for a great health, sleep and fitness tracker. If you like the minimalism of a smart ring, you can always turn off all notifications and alerts in your settings menu. The screen isn't quite as large as the Series 10 watch but it is currently 32% off in a range of colors and band sizes.
The Ultrahuman Ring Air ($349) is a smart ring that tracks health, wellness and fitness metrics like heart rate , skin temperature, activity, workouts, stress and more. It tries to give you actionable information throughout your day. You’ll receive notifications for things like stretch reminders, the ideal time to drink caffeine or best time to get out and exercise for your circadian rhythm. It’s hands-on, and an intriguing option for people who want to adjust their habits and get in the weeds with their data.
It functions similarly to the Oura ring but it doesn’t have a monthly subscription service. You can learn more about Ultrahuman in our in-depth review.
Whoop is a small, screenless tracker built into a stretchy polyester and nylon band. It doesn’t track daily steps, stairs climbed or active minutes, nor does it ping you with notifications. Whoop analyzes your daily health and recovery metrics to give you scores on things like body strain, recovery and sleep in the Whoop app. It comes with a 12-month subscription and it’s currently on sale for 15% off, its lowest price ever.
NBC Select editor Jordan Bowman and I found the Whoop very comfortable to wear — Bowman wore it more often than other trackers because it never felt out of place on his wrist.
This slim, lightweight wearable tracks health, sleep and fitness basics in a beginner-friendly user interface. It has a long battery life (up to 10 days), but it does not have built-in GPS, so don’t expect it to replace a dedicated running watch.
This is one of my favorite fitness trackers for beginners, and it’s matching the lowest price I’ve seen for it at under $100. It’s slim (though a little bigger than the Inspire 3), lightweight, easy to use, and tracks useful health, sleep and fitness data that’s easy to understand at a glance. You can learn more in my Fitbit Charge 6 review.
This is Garmin’s sleekest, slimmest watch, with a minimal display that only lights up with information when you raise your wrist or tap the screen. It has more fitness features than the Oura Ring, including a built-in GPS, on-screen workouts, Garmin Coach plans and more. Plus, It gets up to nine days of battery life. You can also choose from ten distinct colors.
This Garmin smartwatch may not appeal to smart ring minimalism, but it is slimmer and sleeker than many of Garmin’s more outdoor-focused wearables. Plus it has tons of the brand’s best features including sleep coaching, advanced running metrics, workout insights and recovery times and a long battery life (up to 11 days).
